While helping her parents pack-up the house where they lived for over 50 years, Catherine Whelchel discovered a box of papers. These papers included poetry written by her grandmother, Alice Elizabeth Wallenfelsz Cline, throughout her life. Many of these poems were published in the New Matamoras Enterprise or the Marietta Times during the 30s and 40s. The newspaper copy of the poem was all that remained in some cases, and many of these were crumbling. Often, Catherine had to piece together tiny old pieces to figure out a word. There were a few poems that were simply lost as she could not figure out all the words. This collection of poetry, compiled by Whelchel, covers religious topics, nature, children's antics, love, fanciful thoughts and scenes or happenings from everyday life. It includes moments of history otherwise lost, and gives us insight into the life and dreams of Wallenfelsz Cline and the time and place in which she lived. Catherine Whelchel grew up in Marietta, Ohio and now resides in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she works full-time as a registered nurse. http://SBPRA.com/CatherineWhelchel
