Elliott Gilbert was born in Brooklyn, New York. He, his wife and three children lived in the West Village for many years, after which he moved to Hoboken, New Jersey. His education included the Brooklyn Museum Art School, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute and the Art Students' League.
