Much of Saint Paul is still paved with cobblestones. Plans to pedestrianize the street in 2008 were dropped by the City of Montreal after complaints from merchants. During the summer of 2009, the city will briefly close the street to automobile traffic as a pilot project, from July 13 to August 3.
