The Rufous-headed Parrotbill or Greater Rufous-headed Parrotbill (Paradoxornis ruficeps) is a bird species often placed with the Old World babblers (family Timaliidae) or in a distinct family Paradoxornithidae, but it actually seems to belong to the Sylviidae. It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is sometimes split into two species: White-breasted Parrotbill (P. ruficeps) and Rufous-headed Parrotbill (P. bakeri). The Old World babblers or timaliids are a large family of mostly Old World passerine birds. They are rather diverse in size and coloration, but are characterised by soft fluffy plumage. These are birds of tropical areas, with the greatest variety in southeast Asia. The American Wrentit is an enigmatic species that was in recent times placed with the Old World babblers but may, in fact, not belong here.
