P.J. McCalla was born, raised and still lives in Darby, Pennsylvania. She worked in mental health for more than 25 years before retiring. Her debut novel Heads Deacon, Tails Devil, as a finalist in the Multicultural Fiction category in the Foreword Magazine 2009 Best Books Awards and in the African American fiction category in the w009 National Best Books Awards.
