Running in Heels: Women and Politics in Saint Lucia (1961-2016) is the first publication of its kind to highlight the many political achievements and myriad challenges that women have faced in the political arena in Saint Lucia. It provides a small but significant panorama of the lives of twenty-seven women from diverse backgrounds and political capacities, who have populated the political landscape of Saint Lucia through its elective and appointive processes. The book is a kaleidoscope of information; it interweaves stories and historical accounts with important data, statistics, and analysis of the political terrain of Saint Lucia for the last fifty-five years. It does so primarily from the perspective of the women who ran for office, who sat in the senate and/or cabinet and illustrates how gendered dynamics has an impact on their successes or setbacks. Ultimately, Running in Heels is a celebration of women's contribution to the political development of Saint Lucia.
