Efficient and accurate prediction of watershed runoff is important for watershed management studies, safe yield and design of flood control structures. This book highlights runoff prediction using synthetic hydrologic models and geomorphological approach. Various runoff models emerged to estimate the temporal and spatial variation of quantity of runoff from particular rainfall which can be categorized into system theoretic models, conceptual models, and time series models. Requirement of long historical records and lack of physical basis constrained the use of system theoretic models in reality. Conceptual models take into cognizance physical properties of watershed to predict runoff. Implementation and calibration of conceptual models pose various difficulties. Most of the watersheds in Indian sub-continent are un-gauged and do not have the measured values of either rainfall or runoff data. Hence, a comparison between different synthetic hydrological models as well as geomorphologic approach was made under the present effort to identify their capability to predict runoff for various rainfall duration events from Rawat Sagar catchment area.
