The monograph is a study on "Rural Development: By the People, For the People" which is basically based on People's participation that means people are closely involved in economic, social, cultural and political process that affect their lives. Human Development stresses the need to invest in human capabilities and to ensure that the capabilities are used for the benefit of all. The book is also related to the new concept of economic development that contradicts the conventional wisdom that the Gross Development Product (GDP) or per capita GDP is the only measure of wellbeing of the people of a country. Though a few studies are based on village or block level analysis, most of them are at macro-level, i.e., district or state level. Role of governmental and non-governmental organizations in rural development is a hot topic for debate in the changing global perspective. However, this topic has never been studied rigorously and hence there is a lack of literature. This study analyzed, in detail, the role of people's participation with the help of different organizations in the community development, by considering a case of a developing country.
