In most countries the general tendency of rural population is to shift towards the urban area due to better facilities and employment opportunities. This leads to problems like housing, slums, transport, water supply, sanitation, water pollution, air pollution and inadequate provision for social infrastructure. Again, traveling in different places can increase the knowledge and ideas of the tourist. It has been observed from the different studies that the trend of rural tourism is increasing in developed countries resulting into betterment of the rural economy as well as the knowledge and taste of tourists. This treatise illuminates the scope and future of rural tourism in the state of Assam (India), since the state has abundance of natural and forest resources with a diversified culture and tradition.
