Rural-urban migration in the densely populated Southeastern region of Nigeria has remained on the increase. However, studies on the nature of, and importance of this phenomenon to the socioeconomic development of this region has been relegated to the background in favor of studies on international migration. This book ,therefore provides an insight into the patterns and factors of rural-urban migration in this region. Most importantly, it examines the effects of rural-urban migration on the socioeconomic development of the rural communities. The estimated effects of rural-urban migration on the rural communities are based on the nature of remittances sent home, as well as from the execution of community developmental projects by the migrants who live in the urban areas. The findings of this study should be useful to students in the fields of development studies, governments at various levels, development agencies, and policy makers involved in the socioeconomic development of rural areas, especially in the developing countries.
