Youth work is a vital tool of youth empowerment as well as community building. It is realized that youth need to address societal concerns in a scientific and productive way. Their intervention at both micro and macro levels is likely to effect sustainable development. It is felt that a new paradigm for development where youth can and should play a significant role has to be conceived. Such a paradigm combines to meet two critical needs of the world community: the need to improve the condition for rural youth and all youth. The work is divided into nine chapters. Chapter-I introduces the problem and contains exposition of the concepts of youth and youth work. Chapter -II presents a critical survey of relevant literature. Chapter-III provides a profile of the Nehru Yuva Kendra. Chapter-IV explains the methodology. Chapter-V gives a detailed account of the profile of the respondents while chapter VI displays the profile of male youth associations and chapter-VII focuses on the profile of female youth associations. Chapter VIII records the opinions of the NGOs, NYK functionaries and youth associations. Chapter IX concludes the entire work.
