Simon Pirani is a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute of Energy Studies. He writes about energy, politics and the economy of the former Soviet Union as a journalist. His publications include a working paper, Ukraine's Gas Sector (2007), and a monograph on Soviet history, The Russian Revolution in Retreat, 1920-24 (2008).
