WHAT IS THIS PROGRAM ABOUT? This is volume II of the first structured reading program in Russian spanning across 87 levels of progressive complexity. Russian II is the intermediate volume of the program comprising 30 levels called "modules." Each module consists of a text accompanied by multi-leveled questions targeting comprehension as well as word-study and vocabulary. In this volume, children will continue their reading journey with realistic fiction, and they will also learn some fascinating facts about history and culture through relatable and memorable stories. WHO IS THIS VOLUME FOR? This intermediate-level set of 30 modules is designed for children who have completed volume I. It is also suitable for those who can read longer sentences (minimum of 10 words) and are able to process one-page long texts and wish to continue improving their reading, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. HOW DOES THIS PROGRAM WORK? This program is based on a readability formula developed specifically for the Russian language. Each volume begins with simpler texts and shorter sentences as well as easier high frequency words. The texts become increasingly more complex, with new vocabulary and syntax structures gradually being added. WHAT WILL YOUR CHILD LEARN BY COMPLETING VOLUME II? By the end of Part 3 of this volume, children will recognize a larger core of high-frequency words as well as stretches of both simple and split dialogue. Children will learn to process some longer sentences - more than ten words - with prepositional phrases, adjectives, and dialogue, including more variations of compounded sentences. Children will get more used to processing text patters that are particular to written language. RECOMMENDED METHOD OF READING: We recommend that your child covers a module a day, 3 to 5 times a week, for 25 minutes daily. Depending on your child's confidence in reading, a parent's or tutor's help may be necessary, with an overall goal that your child could progress to the point of completing each module independently. By the end of this 6-week course, your child will grow to become a more confident and independent reader. This is volume II of III in the series of Russian reading and vocabulary practicums. Upon completion of volume II, your child should be ready to proceed to volume III and further expand their reading and comprehension.
