Thomas of Celano's Vita Prima Sancti Francisci Assisiensis is the earliest biography of St. Francis of Assisi, written approximately two years after Francis's death. This edition of Vita Prima, published in 1906, is part of a two-volume set and provides a brief but vivid account of the life, miracles, and teachings of St. Francis. Thomas of Celano was a fellow Franciscan and friend of Saint Francis and his biography of Francis was immediately successful and helped to establish Francis as one of the most revered saints of the Catholic Church.
