With approximately 16,000 inhabitants (late 2004), Saalfelden is also the largest city of the Pinzgau. Although Saalfelden since time immemorial has been the most populous parish of the Pinzgau, the city is not the seat of the district administration. This is situated in the neighboring city Zell am See.
