High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The founder of the Sacasa family in Nicaragua was Captain Francisco Sacasa Belastquigoitea y Salinas from Spain. He was a cadet in the Regiment of Dragons of Italy. His first voyage to the province of Nicaragua was made in 1747 with Governor Alonso Fernandez de Heredia. Traveling with him was also the Royal Standard Bearer Juan Francisco de Aguilar y Santa Cruz. His second voyage to Nicaragua was made in 1761. His ship was thrown off course by a storm towards Florida. He was made prisoner by an English privateer and remained as a prisoner for 7 months in the Presidio of San Agustin de la Florida. Once freed he proceeded to San Cristobal de la Habana. When Don Jose Herrera Sotomayor died in 1762 he was named Castilian of the Castle of the River San Juan. He married Maria Lucia Marenco Lopez del Corral, legitimate daughter of Pedro Marenco who was Corregidor of Matagalpa and Chontales and Mercedes Lopez del Corral who was born in the province of Cartago, Costa Rica.
