Her father, Michael Zigler, was responsible for establishing the first Sunday Schools at the Linville Creek Church of the Brethren. Her brother, Robert (M.R.) Zigler, became a world-renowned Peace Activist. Her husband, Charles W. Wampler, became "The Father of the Modern Turkey Industry. As men, their stories and legacies have survived. I was determined that Sadie's story would also be told and remembered.

Libby Layne grew up on Sunny Slope Farm in Rockingham County, the setting of Sadie's Silence. She has a B.S. in Music Education and voice and a M.A. in Counseling. She has spent her life as an integral part of the educational and artistic communities in which she has lived. She has written two other books, The Sound of the Dolphin's Psalm and Becoming Clara Belle.
