Its seat is the town of D browa Bia ostocka, which lies approximately 30 kilometres (19 mi) north of Sokó ka and 61 km (38 mi) north of the regional capital Bia ystok. The gmina covers an area of 263.95 square kilometres (101.9 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 12,755 (out of which the population of D browa Bia ostocka amounts to 6,147, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 6,608).
