The Vistafjord was ordered by Norwegian America Line (NAL) from Swan Hunter Shipbuilders, Newcastle, United Kingdom. She was based on the company''s 1966-built MS Sagafjord, but with an enlarged hull, additional superstructure deck and improved interior layout.
