Another source opines that: "There are two possible derivations: from ''Sace-nong'' or ''Sak-e-nong'' (Sauk Town) because the Sauk (Sac) once lived there, or from Chippewa words meaning ''place of the outlet'' from ''sag'' (an opening) and ''ong'' (place of)."
