This District holds a central position in the northern belt of the Province, and has significance as an area of anthropologi cal interests in the history of South East Asia. Swat is an extremely attractive place for tourist and it is aptly known as the Switzerland of Pakistan. Since the historical announcement in October 1998 of the establishment of Saidu Medical College, on the floor of the Provincial Assembly, Saidu Medical College started functioning with enrol ment of 50 students. The classes started on 28th of December 1998 in the Holy month of Ramzan. The College is housed in the old Paramedic School & Hostel, which have been completely overhauled, renovated and furnished. Hostel facilities for both male and female students are available. Peshawar University affiliation committee visited the college on 08th October 1999 and Saidu Medical College; Swat was approvedfor affiliation with the Peshawar University. The college is presently affiliated with the Khyber Medical University.
