The 8 metre class event was part of the sailing programme at the 1924 Summer Olympics. The competition, the fourth appearance of the event, was held from July 21, 1924 to July 26, 1924. The boats were five-person craft. Five boats, each from a different nation, competed. The qualifying round involved all five boats racing in three races. Any boat which finished in the top two of a race earned a spot in the finals. Points-for-place were calculated for use in ranking non-qualified boats as well as a tie-breaker for the finals.
