The life cycle of each plant is subjected to many types of stresses. Salinity is one of the serious environmental problems that limit plant growth. The incorporation of plant growth regulators (PGRs) during presoaking treatments in many crops has improved seed performance under saline conditions. It is also possible that under highly saline conditions, naturally present hormones are suppressed and seed soaking with plant growth regulators helps to ameliorate the adverse effects of salinity by supplying hormones for normal growth. In view of this, the present investigation aims at understanding the variation in preliminary parameters, inorganic nutrients, organic constituents and some of the enzymes in four leafy vegetables under the influence of NaCl salinity. Studies were also performed to understand whether plant growth regulators can mitigate the adverse effect of salinity in these plants.
