Diagnosing various diseases using saliva as a tool is flourishing in the recent times. The ease of saliva collection and processing along with advancement of various molecular techniques which are sensitive and specific help detecting even minute traces of biomarkers which in turn help in diagnosis of different diseases. Especially in deleterious entities like oral cancer where diagnosis is made at very late stages , use of salivary biomarkers can significantly help not only in diagnosis and to assess the outcome of disease but also to find drugs for targeted therapies against the said biomarkers. The full potential of saliva as a full-fledged diagnostic tool is yet to be explored. Further research in the field of salivaomics should be encouraged.
