It is estimated that up to two hundred million people are chronically infected with G. lamblia globally, and 500,000 new cases are reported annually. The prevalence of the disease varies from 2% -5% in developed to 20% -30% in developing countries. Amebiasis is also one of the world's most prevalent and fatal infectious diseases. Next to malaria and schistosomiasis, amebiasis ranks third on the list of parasitic causes of death worldwide. Around 500 million peoples are infected worldwide while 75,000 die of the disease annually. Salmonellosis causes more disease burden than any other food borne pathogen worldwide. An estimated 93.8 million cases of gastroenteritis caused by Salmonella species occur globally each year . The other major epidemiological development in Salmonellosis is the emergence of multiple-antibiotic resistant Salmonella in the developing countries.
