Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease that is considered a serious public health problem in Brazil, as it is one of the countries with the highest number of cases in the world. It should be emphasised that the problem of leprosy goes beyond the high number of cases when one considers its high disabling potential, as it interferes with the patient's work and social life, as well as causing economic losses and psychological trauma. It is necessary and relevant to find new strategies to improve care for those affected by leprosy. In this context, this study highlights nursing as an area of knowledge capable of working at all levels of care and of structuring itself using various tools to achieve comprehensive care practices for leprosy patients. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the degree of functional activity limitation, risk awareness and social participation of patients after discharge and undergoing treatment for leprosy using the SALSA and Social Participation scales. On the basis of this evaluation, to promote reflection on the use of these assessments and scales in nursing care for leprosy patients.
