Autorenporträt
Tomás Eloy Martínez nació en Tucumán en 1934. Fue uno de los escritores y periodistas más importantes de la Argentina. En su trayectoria y en su obra confluyen el periodismo y la literatura. Integró las redacciones de los semanarios Primera Plana y Panorama, trabajó en el diario La Opinión, fundó El Diario de Caracas, formó parte del equipo creador de Página/12 y fue columnista de periódicos nacionales y extranjeros, entre otras actividades. Publicó numerosos libros, entre ellos, La pasión según Trelew (1973), Lugar común la muerte (1979), La novela de Perón (1985), La mano del amo (1991), Santa Evita (1995), El vuelo de la reina (Premio Alfaguara 2002), El cantor de tango (2004), Las vidas del General (2004), Purgatorio (2008) y Tinieblas para mirar (2014). Sus obras han sido traducidas a varias lenguas, y en particular las emblemáticas La novela de Perón y Santa Evita han sido leídas en más de treinta idiomas y editadas en más de sesenta países. Fue finalista de The Man Booker International Prize por el conjunto de su obra. También desarrolló una importante carrera académica, en la que se destaca su condición de profesor emérito de la Universidad de Rutgers, en Nueva Jersey. Falleció en Buenos Aires en 2010.
