Teresa von Ávila (1515-1582), spanische Ordensgründerin und Mystikerin; durch ihr Wirken entstanden zahlreiche Klöster eines neuen Zweigs des Karmelitenordens (Teresianischer Karmel). Papst Paul VI. verlieh ihr 1970 als erster Frau den Titel "Kirchenlehrerin". Die Werke Teresas von Ávila sind Klassiker der spanischsprachigen Literatur.
