No taxation without representation¿ is the cry that inspires the colonies to seek independent rule after Britain imposes a litany of unbearable taxes on the American colonies. British General John (Gentleman Johnny¿) Burgoyne convinces King George of his plan to invade the colonies from Canada. Burgoyne is to proceed south to Albany meeting General Howe there who is to proceed north from New York City. Cutting off pesky New England from the rest of the colonies in this manner would end the war before it starts. ¿ The last obstacle in his path, just 35 miles north of his goal, is the settlement known as Saratoga. Therein resides Philip Eames who prefers the simple life of the long-hunter in the wilderness. The service to the crown of his Anglican father and the teachings of his Quaker mother strongly influences this young mans beliefs. The reader will follow the life and fate of Philip, the schoolgirl who loves him from youth to maturity, and the French-Canadian Catholic girl with whom he falls in love despite the views of many in the settlement. Neither Philip nor even his closest friends could ever imagine the destiny that fate has in store for this reluctant hero whose moral principles are challenged during the Battle of Saratoga. A single shot is fired that turns the tide of the battle, transforming history forever by bringing France to the aid of the colonists as Americas first ally, and a nation is born. Saratoga Turning Point is a historical tale based on true events that shares the journey of a humble man whose moral principles are challenged during the American Revolution.
