For the first time, Volume VII/1 of the Complete Critical Edition presents Eichendorffâ??s complete satirical dramas in reliable textual form. Alongside the better-known dramas, Krieg den Philistern! (â??War on the Philistines!â?) and Die Freier (â??The Suitorsâ?), the inclusion of the literary satire Meierbeth's Glück und Ende (â??Meierbethâ??s Luck and Endâ?) will help to expand perceptions of Eichendorff's work. The author reveals his most sarcastic side, sparing none of the literary conceits of the second half of the 19th century. The texts Wider Willen (â??Against Oneâ??s Willâ?) and Das Incognito (â??The Incognitoâ?), which have been edited from their manuscript versions, also show Eichendorffâ??s sharp sensibility for his times, thus providing important documentation of the politics of the late Romantic era.
Band VII/1 der HKA legt erstmals sämtliche satirischen Dramen Eichendorffs in zuverlässiger Textgestalt vor. Neben den bekannteren Dramen Krieg den Philistern! und Die Freier könnte vor allem die Literatursatire Meierbeth's Glück und Ende zu einem erweiterten Eichendorff-Bild beitragen. Der Autor zeigt sich von seiner bissigsten Seite und verschont keine der literarischen Moden in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Die nach den Autographen edierten Texte Wider Willen und Das Incognito zeigen ein ebenso scharfes Zeitsensorium Eichendorffs und sind somit wichtige Dokumente der politischen Spätromantik.
