Autorenporträt
Nancy Loewen grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota, where she got to play with a new batch of kittens every summer. Her two cats, Cyrus and Obi, are descendants of those farm cats. She also has a beagle named Dorie, who has convinced her that she might just be a dog person as well. Nancy has published more than 110 books for children and holds an MFA in creative writing from Hamline University, St. Paul. Recent awards include: Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Best Book Award (Baby Wants Mama, 2013); Minnesota Book Award finalist (The LAST Day of Kindergarten, 2012); and a Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers (Writer's Toolbox series, 2010). Nancy lives in the Twin Cities and likes to read, garden, cook, walk her dog, nap with her cats, and collect weird figurines from thrift stores. Kristin Sorra, originally from Baltimore, is an award-winning illustrator who studied at Brooklyn's Pratt Institute, taking classes alongside its Pratt cats, stray cats left by neighborhood folks that would roam the buildings. Kristin still feels a kinship to Brooklyn cats and is honored to recreate the beauty and courage of the bravest known Brooklyn cat, Scarlett. She lives in New York with her daughter and their dog, who happens to fear brave cats.
