Until then, knowledge of the diversity of the Scenedesmaceae family in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, was relatively limited, including its geographical distribution. The current floristic survey of representatives of the family in the state of São Paulo is based on the study of 153 sampling units deposited in the State Scientific Herbarium of the Botanical Institute. Materials from 122 municipalities were examined and specimens of Scenedesmaceae were documented in 91 of them. A total of 73 Scenedesmaceae taxa were identified, distributed in 66 species (including 3 possible species new to science), 12 varieties that are not typical of their respective species and two new combinations. Of the 73 taxa identified, nine were cited for the first time for the state of São Paulo. At the same time, 22 taxa in the specialized literature were evaluated, which were not found in the samples studied, but presented a description, measurements and illustration of the material studied, i.e. sufficient conditions for their re-identification. Finally, 46 other taxa that had been wrongly identified and appear under different names in the literature were maintained.
