As a complicated cognitive activity covering various fields of disciplines, interpreting is worthy of being approached from the perspective of schema theory, a powerful psychological principle of how knowledge is mentally represented. This study, both theoretically and practically valuable for interpreting study and training, not only explores the functions of schema in three major processes of interpreting, i.e. comprehension, memorization and reproduction, to enhance our understanding of the cognitive-linguistic dimension of interpreting, but also puts forward some insightful suggestions concerning interpreting training from the schema-theoretic point of view.
