Many schools are not academically successful, despite having all the necessary resources, highly qualified teachers, a good community support structure...why is this? The leadership style of a school principal in many ways will determine the success of a school as a learning institution. School principals need to have a leadership style that incorporates the above factors in such a way that all stakeholders within the school environment are able to benefit from such a manner of leadership. The school principal need to acquire certain personal characteristics, the appropriate people skills , in addition to having the required knowledge in the effective management of the everyday school operations. This book essentially provides the reader with valuable information on different leadership styles based on studies conducted in underprivileged high schools in Cape Town, South Africa. The effectiveness of each leadership style are analysed and measured against the academic success of various schools.
