Writing about science fiction has for a long time been overwhelmingly a White male authors' literary field. This stereotype is no longer tenable with the rise of an African American presence in this subgenre of the novel. Famous Black authors and Black female authors like Octavia Estelle Butler assure a new perspective in science fiction namely the positioning of Blacks on issue as discrimination, sexism, racism and slavery. In a nutshell, the African American science fiction leads the reader in a travel to the past while establishing a bridge between the past and the present times as a fuel for a safe travel to the future. The past as psycho-historical locale introduces each one on a meditation upon the real meaning of nowadays social and political phenomena so as to transcend them for a true journey for self definition and socio-political realization.
