In this scientific report, the author highlights the results of the search for the reasons for the emergence of a period of "open psychological crisis," based on fundamental research by representatives of foreign world psychological schools (psychoanalysis, behaviorism, humanistic direction) and domestic: Kharkiv, Odessa and Kyiv psychological schools. It should be noted that from these circumstances there is a need for a profound historical and psychological analysis in conducting a theoretical study of the impact of an "open psychological crisis" on the formation of modern psychological science. The urgency of this problem is also connected with the need to clarify the many facts regarding the scientific coverage of the history of the development of Ukrainian psychology. In connection with this, there is a need for a more complete rethinking of the process of formation of psychological science (XIX-XX centuries.). Particular attention in the study focuses on the theory of behavior in the cultural and historical aspect, trying to find the root cause of the crisis in psychology, in addition to the mismatch of the then methodology to the new demands of research psychologists.
