How do you turn folders of family history information and statistics into something more worthwhile and just maybe something of interest to your family? That was the thought when distant cousins Warwick and Martin got together for the first time at an early settler re-enactment and decided to write a book about 3 x great grandfather Robert Miller. Robert, wife Flora and their family were Scottish early settlers of Australia' Phillip Island and Lake Rowan in the late 1860's through to the turn of the century. Our research into their past and our findings became complex and enriching as we learnt more about them and other ancestors, their trials and tribulations and what it took for them to achieve their dreams. The history presented here is not quite a history for historians. It is too personal and does not sufficiently follow writing conventions to be considered as such, although accuracy has been considered paramount. It is hoped that the informality of the book makes the research findings more enjoyable to read as we look into who, when and why the Millers left Scotland. We think it was opportunity and the call of the land that drove them and their children to carve out a future life in Australia, you may think otherwise!
