Freedom is not given to us by anyone; we have to cultivate it ourselves. This compendium of the core teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, based on a talk given at Maryland Correctional Institution at Hagerstown on October 16th, 1999, shows how mindfulness practice can cultivate freedom no matter where you are. Throughout the day spent at the prison, the incarcerated individuals showed a lot of interest in Thich Nhat Hanh's talk and asked him many questions. The teachings and his answers given to questions raised can be applied to any one of us—inside or outside prison walls.
