The lack of specific guidelines for management of thermal discharges from thermal power plant facilities such as coal-fired thermal power plants from the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) motivated the conceptualization of this dissertation work by the author and her adviser from the Marine Science Institute of the University of the Philippines. Results of this study can be used as guide in developing specific guidelines for management of thermal discharges from coal-fired thermal power plants in the Philippines.

Dr. Ma. Luisa P. Martinez is currently a Professor of the School of Graduate Studies of the Mapua Institute of Technology, Philippines. She finished her Ph.D.in Environmental Science at the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology at the University of the Philippines in 2008. She worked at the National Power Corporation from 1991 to 2003.
