Susan Carter grew up as one of three siblings, the only girl among two brothers, Denis, one year older, and Alan, two years younger. The brothers were as different as the poles of a magnet, each one pulling in the opposite direction. To look at the three of them, one would never guess they were siblings. Dennis' constant harassment of his younger brother left Alan in a blanket of insecurity and resentment, tempered only by Susan's meager attempts to sooth their differences. The brothers' divergent lives led one to college, a tour of duty in Vietnam, and diversity; the other to the status quo, and a presumed competition for superiority. Over time, the siblings drifted apart, and the deaths of their parents drove the wedges of their differences ever deeper. Ultimately, a tragic event challenges them all to re-evaluate their lives and they attempt to come to terms with the fallout from the disparity that had followed them through decades of disputes and discord. While Dennis fights for his life, Alen battles the demons that followed him home from the Vietnam War, and Susan finds herself lost in the no-man's land between them. Marc Cullison, author of The Other Vietnam War - A Helicopter Pilot's Life in Vietnam, currently on Amazon's Top 20 List of biographies about the Vietnam War, is a baby-boomer who grew up in an era when education was everything and duty to country was a responsibility. After receiving a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering at Oklahoma State University, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Unites States Reserve Corps of Engineers through the ROTC program. During his four-year tour of duty, he served as a helicopter pilot with the 129th Assault Helicopter Company in II Corps, Vietnam, in 1971. He returned from overseas to an assignment as a military assistant to the resident engineer at Kaw Dam and Reservoir near Ponca City, Oklahoma, and met the woman he would marry. After two years in Ponca City he was honorably discharged and returned to Oklahoma State where he received a master's degree in architectural engineering and honed his technical skills as a professional structural engineer. Then a position in quality control at a manufacturing plant finally led him into computer programming. His most recent career was as a math and science instructor at Conners State University in Warner and Muskogee, Oklahoma, from which he retired in 2014
