Jeff Della is a young man from the small town of Stone Grove, West Virginia. A fatal car crash when he was seventeen left his family dead and Jeff blinded by corrosive chemicals. When Jeff's eyesight returns, his doctors cannot explain it. Jeff, having lost everything, moves into a small cabin in a densely wooded area outside of town with his Siberian Husky Waylon his only companion. While working in the woods one afternoon, Jeff and Waylon are struck by an odd flash of light that fades as quickly as it came. Cut off from town, Jeff cannot know the ramifications of that flash: In an instant, the entire world seems to have gone blind. When Jeff goes into town to investigate the fires and loss of radio reception, he is greeted by the end of the world. Jeff turns from loner to savior, as he battles to help the blinded populace of his small town. Jeff is faced with the one thing that he had never expected, to be part of a community again, and now he is the single most important part of that community. There can't be anything worse than being the only person in town that isn't blind, except for one thing: Not being the only one. Enter into Jeff's world of troubles Oscar Daniels, a hard-drinking, pill-popping loser that suddenly finds himself the Lord of all Creation in the little town that had shunned him. As Jeff struggles to keep his blinded townsfolk alive, Oscar finds that killing is as addictive as any of the drugs he takes. Centered around a small school for the blind called Second Sight, Jeff and Waylon, along with Cynthia Jordan, a young teacher at the school who herself was born blind, and Father Don Martinez, a priest who is now newly so, must try to help and defend the eleven children of the school, and attempt to rescue as many townsfolk as they can, all while facing an inevitable showdown with Oscar Daniels, a man determined to kill them all. Set in a world that is falling in upon itself, "Second Sight" highlights man's ability or inability to adapt to a sudden apocalypse triggered by something as simple as the loss of just one of the five senses. Will Jeff Della manage to save his town, or will Oscar Daniels destroy what is left of their already ravaged town? This is the 2nd Edition of "Second Sight". I created a 2nd Edition because it felt like there was just a bit more story there that I had originally pared away, thinking it unnecessary to the novel. Those of you that read the 1st Edition will not find any major events changed, or characters suddenly behaving in altogether different manners. However, it is my hope that some background lost in the 1st Edition will be found now, and enrich your reading experience and bring your greater joy in this story.
