A consideration of fixed appliance techniques available at the present time will reveal a small number of clearly defined systems, which require the application of particular diagnostic criteria and which define treatment objective. Some orthodontists are wholly committed to one or another of these techniques, and this polarization of opinion would suggest that no single technique is applicable to all cases. No doubt further refinement of mechanism will be developed, but they will arise out of experience gained by using existing methods.
