Bachelor Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict, Security, grade: 1.0 / A, University of Würzburg (Institute for Political Sciences and Social Studies), course: Peace and Conflict Studies, language: English, abstract: The thesis examines four speeches of Benjamin Netanyahu held between September 2010 and September 2013 on the topic of the Iranian nuclear program. Theoretical background is provided by the securitization theory introduced and generally associated with the two scholar Barry Buzan and Ole Waever. The thesis points out that the securitizing actor, Benjamin Netanyahu, securitizes the program as a threat to world peace and to the Jewish people in general. The empirical part relies on the concept of 'extraction' and linking of certain relevant passages of the speeches. The concept was developed by the Swiss scholars Britt Laudel and Jochen Gläser. Eventually the paper concludes that the Iranian nuclear program is indeed securitizedas an existential threat to the Jewish people and a terrorist threat to the rest of the world, comparable to the terror of Al-Qaeda.
