Among environmental stress, salinity is one of the key factors which can limit the distribution and productivity of plants worldwide.Seed priming has been successfully demonstrated to improve germination and emergence in seeds of many crops, particularly seeds of vegetables and small seeded grasses.Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is one of the most prevalent treatment. This treatment does not have any physiological responses to seed and in order to having more molecular weight cannot pass the cell wall and so it be used for water potential adjustment in germination experiments.

Navin Pradhan, a Ph.D. Scholar in the Department of Plant Physiology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and has done M.Sc.(Ag.) from the Dept. of Plant Physiology, BHU and hold B.Sc.(Ag.),from U.B.K.V. West Bengal. He has published book chapters, research papers & popular articles and has awarded ICAR-JRF, ICAR-SRF and also a life member of ISPP.
