He also offers a Catholic theological interpretation and assessment of those Catholic-inspired NGOs, and he calls for a "new model" of relationship between Catholic-inspired NGO's and the UN. At present, there is no other book that offers such a vast and profound historical and theological analysis of this story. For that reason, this magisterial text now stands as the most important book in its field. As such, it constitutes an essential source and required reading for all Catholic-inspired NGO representatives at the UN, as well as for the leaders and members of organizations they represent. In addition, the book recommends itself to all Catholics and members of other religious traditions who are interested in the UN, as well as to UN and diplomatic personnel who realize the importance role of our human family's spiritual wisdom traditions as resources for ethical guidance in global governance. EMEKA XRIS OBIEZU is Roman Catholic priest of the Order of St. Augustine. He was the immediate past permanent representative of Augustinians International at the United Nations (UN), New York. In that post, he was a special consultant to the UN Economic and Social Council, a regular speaker at major UN events in New York, Geneva, and around the world, and a contributor to various UN policies and decision-making processes. He is an expert in policy advocacy, international migration and development, and United Nations and global governance, as well as religions' interface with international organizations. In both academic and popular settings, he has lectured and published on the issues addressed in this book, and on the major global issues of development and migration. Fr. Obiezu earned a Ph.D. in Political Theology from the University of St. Michael's College in the University of Toronto, Canada. He also holds a certificate in International Migration Law; Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, and another certificate in Understanding Societal Change, from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, Geneva, and from United Nations University of Peace, Costa Rica.
