In the first part, the TDD mode of operation of WCDMA technology is thoroughly investigated under different scenarios and a complete framework forperformance evaluation is proposed. In the second part, a number of problems related to the performance of communicationsystems over the Weibull fading channel are addressed. In particular, the performance of different diversity schemes is extensively studied under different scenarios involving theexistence/non-existence of cochannel interference. Throughout this work, Monte Carlo simulations are provided to complement theanalytical results presented.

Mahmoud H. Ismail is an Assistant Professor of Telecommunications at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University and a Senior Systems Engineering Consultant at Newport Media Inc. design center in Cairo, Egypt. He received a PhD degree from the University of Mississippi, USA in 2006 and he has more than 11 years of experience in the wireless field.
