Selenginsky District is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the twenty-one in the Buryat Republic, Russia. The area of the district is 8,269 square kilometers (3,193 sq mi). Its administrative center is the town of Gusinoozyorsk. District's population: 46,900 (2008 est.); 50,632 (2002 Census); 27,098 (1989 Census). Population of Gusinoozyorsk accounts for 52.3% of the district's population. The Republic of Buryatia is a federal subject of Russia (a republic). Its area is 351,300 square kilometers (135,600 sq mi) with a population of 972,700 (preliminary 2010 Census results). Its capital is Ulan-Ude.
