Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Sociology - Children and Youth, grade: 100, , language: English, abstract: Self-concept and self-esteem of young people in need of protection and care in Turkey were evaluated within the framework of the literature in this study. Environment of well-being and trust provided by a healthy family unit is crucial in terms of the self-development, self-esteem, and mental health of individuals. Young people in need of protection and care may encounter various negative problems in terms of emotional, social, mental, and language development due to deficiencies in this context. Youth period is considered a critical period in terms of the self-development and self-esteem of individuals. One of the problems faced by the young people is depression which they experience in terms of self-concept and self-esteem. They must open up to the social environment and socialize, for the formation of their personalities and their upbringing. These youngpeople, who have a reduced capacity to cope with the problems they encounter in life, experience various problems. Studies have shown that the young people have low self-esteem and, accordingly, their capacity to cope with their problems may decrease and their psychological problems may increase. They are also often lonely and unemployed after leaving State Protection.
Autorenporträt
Born in 1990 in Istanbul, Turkey, the author completed his undergraduate education at Hacettepe University, Department of Social Work, and his minor education at the Sociology department of the same university. He earned his master's degree in Ankara University Social Work Department and continues his doctorate education. He works as a Research Assistant at the Social Work Department of Gümü¿hane University.
