The foundry industry is today considered as a major contributor to pollution problem in the world. The various production activities in the foundry lead to by products and some of these by products are contaminants to land, water, air and the environment in general. One of the common sources of environmental pollution in the foundry is binders. Binders of different types are used for core making and mould making in the foundry. Some of these binders release emissions into the environment at various production stages, which are harmful if the threshold values for workers exposure are exceeded. This development has led to the strict control placed on some binders in some countries. The need to produce a safe and environmentally friendly self curing binder system informed this work. Our collective efforts are needed to safeguard the health of workers and to curtail the effects of global warming. The work has covered the development of a binder system from extracts of plants, the testing of the core properties of the developed binder, and sands used. This work will be of immense use to foundry operators, researchers, undergraduates and postgraduate students of engineering (matls& met)
