Mauritius, for its part, initiated a campaign to challenge the United Kingdom on the status and sovereignty in Chagos, which ended with the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice in 2019, where it is expressed that the retention of the archipelago is illegitimate, requesting the end of the colonial administration.
